The Chemistry Department is now accepting applications for Chemistry Learning Assistants (CLAs) for the Fall 2025 semester. CLAs are the individuals who rotate during recitation sessions and help answer student questions. CLAs also perform a variety of other activities which include hosting exam review sessions, holding office hours, constructing supplementary study resources, and creating short content videos. Overall, being a CLA is a 5 hour weekly commitment which includes 1 hour for recitation, 2 hours towards creating/contributing to a supplementary activity, 1 hour for preparation (on your own time), and 1 hour for a weekly meeting. You qualify to apply for a CLA position if you expect to (or have) earn(ed) a grade of B or higher in the class for which you want to be a CLA. First time CLAs are also required to take CHEM 3710 (CRN 59077) which is a participation-based class that will be held on Friday’s from 3:00-3:50 PM. This course qualifies for experiential credit, and you may take CHEM 3710 twice (over two semesters) to attain 6 of the 9 required upper division CHEM credit hours to earn a minor in chemistry. Please also note that the classwork and time spent in CHEM3710 is in addition to the 5 hour weekly responsibilities of being a CLA. Applicants who apply by May 21st will receive full consideration, but applications will be accepted past this date. Updates about application status will be sent over the summer, so please check your email regularly. Interested in more information?
