Experiential Learning

Chemistry Learning Assistant

The Chemistry Department is now accepting applications for Chemistry Learning Assistants (CLAs) for the Fall 2024 semester. CLAs are the individuals who rotate during recitation sessions and help answer student questions. CLAs also perform a variety of other activities which include executing exam review sessions, holding office hours, creating supplementary study resources, and creating short content videos. Overall, being a CLA is a five-hour weekly commitment which includes one hour for recitation, two hours towards creating/contributing to a supplementary activity, one hour for preparation (on your own time), and one hour for a weekly meeting. You qualify to apply for a CLA position if you expect to (or have) earn a grade of B or higher in the class for which you want to be a CLA.

First time CLAs are also required to take CHEM 3710 (CRN 59077) which is a participation-based class that will be held on Fridays from 3:00-3:50 PM. This course qualifies for experiential credit, and you may take CHEM 3710 twice (over two semesters) to attain six of the nine required upper division CHEM credit hours to earn a minor in chemistry.

Applicants who apply by May 1st will receive full consideration, but applications will be accepted past this date.
