Undergraduate Awards & Scholarships

The Department of Chemistry is proud to recognize and support outstanding undergraduate students through a variety of scholarships and awards. Recipients are selected each spring through faculty nomination.

Pamela Ann Henkel Award
Presented to the most outstanding undergraduate student in organic chemistry.  Eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need, which is verified through the Office of Student Financial Aid.  Funding for this award is provided by the family of student Pamela Henkel after her untimely death.

Alfred W. Scott, Sr. Award
Presented to the most outstanding rising senior majoring in ACS-certified Chemistry.  This award honors Dr. Alfred W. Scott, former professor of organic chemistry and department head from 1927 to 1962.

L.B. “Buck” Rogers Award
Presented to the undergraduate student who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in chemistry research during the past academic year.  This award honors Dr. Buck Rogers, former professor of analytical chemistry and department head.

SPARK Awards
Thanks to the generosity of distinguished Department of Chemistry alumnus Michael Scarbrough, the SPARK Awards provide a monetary stipend to support outstanding undergraduate students engaged in research. Recipients are selected each spring through faculty nomination based on their research accomplishments and potential.
