SURO Research: Duncan Laboratory, Physical Chemistry

Sydney measured the spectrum of small nitrogen containing carbocations using infrared laser spectroscopy. She focused on methaniminium, an ion of a neutral species that has been found in the interstellar medium.

SURO Research: Popik Laboratory, Organic Chemistry

Diana worked with Masha Sutton in Dr. Popik’s research group studying the organic synthesis of novel photo-reactive compounds. They worked on a synthesis path for caged compounds that will become fluorescent upon stimulation with light in order to measure the amount of drug released during stimulation.

Jasmine worked with fellow SURO student Marlyne to measure the surface tension of seawater samples using pendant drop tensiometry and run photochemistry experiments in a solar simulator.

In Kaitlin’s research, she explored the synthesis, molecular structure, and equilibrium dynamics of the 1,3,2-diazaborole-derived carbene-BX3 complex (X=Br, I).
