Research Interests:

My current research work focuses on application of nanotechnology in biomedical engineering, particularly, my interest includes but not limited to:

Circumvent Drug Resistance in Cancer: Utilizing multifunctional nanoparticles as a delivery system that can bypass the biological barrier. Designing of small gold, silica nanoparticles, and polymer based nanoparticles system (micelles) for dual therapy, and low intersection peptide based delivery system for treatment of tumor microenvironment for potential cancer therapeutic application;

Nanotechnology for Neuroscience and Cardiovascular Disease: Design and development of brain-accumulating intracellular brain-targeted NPs with anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agents, to bypass the blood-brain barrier to treat Parkinson's, stroke, neonatal ischemia, multiple sclerosis and subarachnoid hemorrhage in animal models of these disorders. Development of nanotherapeutics for cardiovascular diseases and using polymer or metal based vehicles for delivering drug cargo to remove plaques;

Nanotechnology for Immunotherapy: Design and development of technologies that use a combination of conventional cancer treatment and immunotherapy in a single nanoparticle platform to provide powerful tool to treat metastatic cancer;

Stimuli Responsive Delivery System : Design and development of stimuli sensitive polymer and metals base hybrid nanoparticles platform with high payload and redox/thermal-responsive release behavior; minimizing the sizes of these nanoparticles to achieve passive targeting by enhanced permeability and retention effect in tumor or engineering specific structures response to external stimuli such as pH and near-Infrared light trigger release;

Organelles Targeted Drug Delivery Systems: Design and development of cell/organelle (mitochondria, nucleus, ER, endothelial cells, tumor fibroblast) targeted engineered nanoparticles that will offer several advantages over the existing drugs;

Theranostic & Personalized Medicine for Better Healthcare: Engineering multifunctional biomedical nanoplatforms for imaging-guided cancer therapy; incorporating imaging (NIR-optical, photoacoustic, MRI, Ultrasound etc.) with traditional chemotherapy and novel cancer therapies (magnetic hyperthermia, photothermal, photodynamic and gene therapy etc.); exploring its potential for personalized medicine and better healthcare;

Nano-based Portable Devices for Rapid Detection: Functional nanostructure based adaptable sensors, such as fabricating nanoscale materials to build more sensitive, specific and adaptable sensors for early detection of infectious disease biomarkers, especially using the special optical, electronic and magnetic properties of nanomaterials;
