Andrea came to UGA from Kitchener, Ontario (Canada) via Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she attended Calvin College and graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Mathematics and Honors Chemistry. She joined the Wheeler Group at Texas A&M in the Summer of 2015 and transferred to UGA with the Wheeler Group in 2017. In her free time, she likes baking cookies and reading about superheroes.
Andrea's current research focuses on understanding the fundamental chemical principles that drive stacking interactions relevant to protein-ligand binding, with an ultimate goal of developing guidelines and predictions that can be used in drug design. She also looks at the role of noncovalent interactions on the selectivity and activity of organocatalysts. She is currently focusing on a BINOL catalyzed conjugate addition of boronates to enones. Previous research included studies focused on understanding the rates and mechanisms of nickel-catalyzed syntheses of conjugated polymers.
